On
the Solent.
After a mid morning departure from Ocean Village, Enigma motors the short distance
down the River Itchen, before hoisting the sails out on Southampton Water. Here
the huge container ships, oil tankers and passenger liners share the river with
small yachts and even smaller sailing dinghies. We sail along the wooded shore
of Weston and past the historic Netley dome, and then join the other outbound
yachts at the busy entrance to the River Hamble, before heading out into the
Solent. Here the wind is free and we can enjoy the sailing, perhaps heading
Westward with the last of the tide until we turn South toward the Isle of Wight.
During the off season or when weather is inclement we might make for the worlds capital of sailing Cowes, and visit the small town for lunch. During the summer months we will continue past Cowes harbour to picturesque Osborne Bay, and lay our anchor off the beach that Queen Victoria used to bathe from..

Then, after a pleasant lunch and the tide now turned fair for the trip home,
we set sail for Southampton, first crossing the Solent to find the flood tide
along the North Channel that will sweep us back to Ocean Village sometime in
the late afternoon.
NB: This trip is best taken when the High Water time is between 06:30 & 09:30.
