Bergstrom rig. The Hunter
29.5 is built to plans approved by the ABS, meaning that while 'Enigma'
may never sail the Southern Ocean, you can rest assured that the boat was designed
for those strict standards.
By sweeping the shrouds and spreaders aft on the Hunter
29.5 the designers were able to support the mast in all conditions without the
need for a conventional backstay. This means they were free to maximise the
roach of the Mainsail in order to increase the sail area. With the majority
of sail area in the main, sudden gusts can be easily handled by "dumping"
the main sheet which is always at hand to the helmsperson.
